Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

White is blanketing many parts of the world right now (save Australia!) but my heart just melted when I saw Pia's stunning photos of the recent snow in Amsterdam. Having so enjoyed our honeymoon trip there, seeing the streets the hubby and I strolled down and the canals we sat by now awash in white makes me wistful for a wintertime visit. It would be amazing to experience the city in this beautiful state.

Le sigh.

White Out

Every time I think I'm done, I'm completely bought into the dark floor craze, bright whitew suddenly start looking so appealing again!

It might have something to do with the fact that we've dipped under 8-hours of daylight, but there's also something just so inviting about the blank slate that a whitewash provides. When anchored by stunning hardwoods and the right plush accents, the white still feels amazingly warm and most importantly, nice and bright.

I guess the debate rages on!

{Black & White} Tasty Tuesday

I've got my fantasy kitchen pretty well pegged in my head, but when I see such a stunning example of the always-chic black & white checkered floor, I start to backpedal a bit.

It's a kitchen-look so delicious it makes me want to grab a spoon and dig right in. I think I'll stick with some mini chocolate cakes in equally stunning black and white and continue to mull over my kitchen design options for now.

And just remember, despite the absolutely stunning images above, when you're cooking, your food (nor you for that matter!) have to look beautiful to taste good (but a nice presentation can always help your cause a little!)

Recipe: Cherry, Almond and Chocolate Cake

175 grams almond paste
3 eggs
50 grams butter
90 grams bittersweet chocolate
30 grams flour
2 grams baking powder
cherries, pitted and cut into medium dice

In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the almond paste with one egg with the paddle attachment. When this becomes a smooth mixture, add the rest of the eggs and switch to the whip attachment. Whip this for about 5 minutes until light and fluffy.

In the meantime, melt the butter and the chocolate over a double boiler. When the eggs have become thick and make a ribbon, turn the machine to low and add the melted chocolate and butter. Mix until combined.

Add the flour and baking powder and mix. Fold in the pieces of cherry.

Refrigerate the batter for a couple of hours. Pipe into molds (half way up) and bake at 350 degrees for about 12 minutes. When the cake has almost set completely, place a whole cherry with its stem on top, let the cake finish baking for another 3 minutes or so.

Monday {Whit-y} Workwear

What do you get when you combine Parsons and FIT training with stints at Kate Spade and Steven Alan? A lovely debut collection from Whitney Pozgay called Whit!

What's not to love about a flirty skirt, sweet stripes and a perfect pop or two of color? But the collection really had me at the gold lamΓ©.

Hope you (your at least your wardrobe) is having fun this Monday dearies.

Wedding Wednesday ~ Black {and white} Magic by Jose Villa

With another slew of friends' weddings on the docket I'm back to my old tricks - banking endless wedding shots for inspiration boards, color schemes and tips and tricks to help each bride-to-be.

When I came upon this shoot, styled by Le Fleur Weddings, it exceeded my inspiration worthy requirements. It made me do a double take. I wanted to dig into the detail of each shot - and each time I did, I spotted something I didn't notice before.

And really more than anything, I loved seeing a whimsical play on the black and white combo that went beyond the traditional look of buttoned up black tie.

And then I realized the photography is by our wedding photographer, the uber-genius Jose Villa.

No wonder it was love at first site!

Check out a recent feature on Style Me Pretty for more shots of the fabulous fete.

Wedding Wednesday {Bridal White}

Wedding whites usually are all about the dress, but I'm loving other white wedding details, from bouquets, to hair accessories, to shoes.

I love color, but I'm tempted to go monochromatic. Would you do it for your wedding?

My Happy Place

I think not!

Oasis

With a mind too full of details, lists, ideas and to-do's I'd like to slip away to a blank slate where I can find my own quite space, discover new inspiration and rejuvenate the spirit.

A virtual oasis will have to do for now. Excuse me while I get lost in these spaces for awhile.

Trinkets and Treasures

Since I paid homage to a darker approach to the holiday season earlier today, I also had to feature some of my favorite cheery winter whites.

Whimsical headwear,

And subtle holiday decor. Dark or light for the holidays - you really can't go wrong.

White Hot Interiors

Temperatures continue to dip and I found myself humming my first Christmas song this morning (that's right, I said it, Christmas!).

It's making me want to retreat to warm inviting spaces that involve baking, hot chocolate, bubble baths and cozy blankets.

White may be prominent in these spaces but they still envelope you in warmth.

I'll take a day in each please!
