Richard Jeni died at the age of 45 in a Los Angeles hospital of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday morning, police said.
Jeni's girlfriend called the police saying, "My boyfriend shot himself in the face," according to E! News. Police arrived at the scene and found Jeni still alive lying on the bathroom floor. He taken to a nearby hospital where he died a short time later.
He had been booked last weekend at the Chicago Improv but canceled last minute.
In 2004, a Comedy Central special ranked Jeni as the 57th greatest stand-up comic of all time, placing him ahead of Larry Miller and just behind "Saturday Night Live" alum Colin Quinn.
Obviously a tortured soul, let's hope he is at rest now.
