Wedding Wednesday {Cupcake Alternative}

While there are a myriad of wedding cake alternatives out there (I've seen pancakes, pies, cookies and custom candy buffets among others) cupcakes remain the dominant trend. And don't get me wrong, I do love a good cupcake. But they're tipping over into the over-exposed, the expected, the ordinary category.

That's why I came to a full stop when I saw these gold-leafed mini cakes from Sweetapolita.

Still small and individual, just like a cupcake, but instead, in the form of a sweetly heart shaped cake covered in edible gold!

Now that adds a whole new glamorously-romantic factor to mini dessert idea. And I, for one, am completely in love.

These absolutely stunning  Maggie Austin Cakes by a former classical ballerina who trained in Paris (and it shows!) really need to be enjoyed much more often.

Like after you make through a tough week. Or resisted that new patent pump that was calling your name. Or really for no reason at all.

Wedding Wednesday {To Top It All Off}

We had neither traditional wedding cake, nor wedding cake topper at our Mexico - ceremony (spoiler alert photos coming VERY soon), but it can be such a fun little detail when done right. I think I may have to reprise it for the one year anniversary mark.

Any one of these fabulously fresh takes on the old-school tradition would do quite nicely.

Of course, I couldn't commit to one direction for this post though. While I do love my bridal whites, I'm still a sucker for soft palettes, especially when they're in the form of a wedding cake of cheese! Now I'm really in heaven.
