Angelina Jolie: Saint or Sinner?

Us Weekly stirs up some Angelina Jolie controversy.

Angelina Jolie recently announced, to much fanfare, that she would be a stay-at-home mom. "I will stay at home to help Pax adjust to his new life," Jolie told the Ho Chi Minh City Law newspaper on March 16. "I have four children and caring for them is the most important thing for the moment."

So it came as a surprise four days later when Variety reported that the Oscar winner had signed up to play an assassin in Wanted, which is set to begin shooting in April in Prague.

Even more bewildering was Jolie, 31, showing up in Chicago on March 23 for screen tests on Wanted. The fact that Jolie was anywhere but at home with her family was odd.

Just eight days earlier, the actress had picked up her newly adopted son, Pax, from a Vietnam orphanage. But, despite what she told the Vietnamese newspaper, the mother-of-four does not appear to be slowing down any time soon. She's also slated to star in Atlas Shrugged and The Changeling, which is preparing a fall start.

"That does seem like a heavy workload for someone with a large family," Christine Adamec, author of Is Adoption for You?, tells Us. Adds L.A.-area early-development psychologist Marcy Axness: "Children thrive on predictability, continuity, security and rhythm in their daily life."

That's not the only about-face Jolie has made recently. The day Jolie picked up Pax at the orphanage, where paparazzi swarmed, she said, "Photographs make him upset. I'm sorry for bringing this into his life."

And yet, just days after picking up Pax, Jolie staged photos of herself, Zahara, Maddox and Pax and sold them to the U.K.'s Hello! magazine and People magazine.

Angelina Jolie Paid $2 Million For Photographs of Pax?

Angelina Jolie agreed to sell photos of her newly adopted son Pax to People magazine for an estimated $2 million.

A People spokesperson has denied the $2 million deal and calls it “absurd,” but the rumors continue.

The spokesperson added, “We don't comment on the specifics on any negotiations,” fueling further speculation.

Photos of Angelina and Pax are already on the cover of Hello magazine after Jolie gave them exclusive access to Angelina's photgraphs. The photos show Pax becoming acquainted with his new siblings.

Brad and Angelina asked for and got an astounding $4.1 million for pictures of Shiloh after she was born. They donated the money to an undisclosed charity.

Angie also spoke to Hello magazine about Pax, “He is a very serious, very sweet little boy. We are slowly beginning to build his trust and bond but it will feel complete only when we are all a family.”

“You can imagine what courage it takes to be in all new surroundings with new people and a new language. He is very strong.” She added: “It will take him a while to realize he has a family; that his new life is permanent and it won't keep changing.”

Angelina Makes Pax Cry

Pax Thien Jolie (given name Pham Quang), the 3-year-old Vietnamese boy that Angelina Jolie has adopted, started bawling when his new mother knelt down to talk to him today during a welcoming ceremony at the orphanage.

"She told me she understands – that it's normal for all young children to be scared," said the orphanage director, Mr. Nguyen Van Trung.

"Later he was okay, very cheerful and happy," Trung said. "He even played with his new brother Maddox."

Jolie completed adoption procedures after picking up Pax from the orphanage. She adopted him as a single parent because Vietnam's adoption regulations don't allow unmarried couples to co-adopt. Maddox accompanied his mother to meet his new brother.

Pax wasn't told by the staff that he was being adopted that day which may have been why he was so upset in the beginning.

"We did not say anything to him, afraid we might put pressure on him and more frightened," Tuyen said. "We just told him that we are taking him out. You are going to play outside – play with a mother and father."

Angelina Jolie Escapes Kidnapping Attempt

Angelina Jolie was nearly abducted and held for ransom during a visit to an aid project as a UN Goodwill Ambassador.



She told the News of the World: “It was in a small village. I won’t say where, or with whom, but some gangsters planned to kidnap me and extort a massive ransom.”

“I was warned at the last minute, and managed to escape, luckily.”

Angelina says that the scare won't stop her from wanting to help others: “”I don’t want to act like the Mother Teresa of Hollywood. But I want to help where there is poverty and destruction.”

“It became clear to me [several years ago] that I was an incredibly well-off star, and that I had to do something against the screaming injustice on this planet. Brangelina Plans to Adopt Vietnamese Boy

A Vietnamese official announced Wednesday that Angelina Jolie is in the process of adopting a child after her Thanksgiving trip to the Tam Binh orphanage with Brad Pitt.

Vietnamese law does not allow unmarried couples to adopt, only "one single person or one married couple. However, Brad has filed to formally adopt all members of the Jolie-Pitt clan.

Brangelina have decided they want a 3 or 4 year old baby boy. A brother for Maddox, if you will.

The paperwork has been finished and been passed onto officials in Ho Chi Minh City for review. Reportedly it typically takes 3-4 months to process the adoption formalities, but officials stated that it may take less time for Jolie. They carefully added that her celebrity status is not the reason.
